Dr David Cane is the owner and principal consultant of Catalysis Consulting. David is an expert in outcome-based learning and has been a full-time consultant since 1998 focusing on the development of competency-based workplace standards. He has a reputation as a leader in the field, and is an invited speaker on the topic at a national level.
Before starting his consulting career, David was an accomplished educator and administrator, with broad experience in post secondary education institutions (public and private), the health sector and Aboriginal organizations. His background includes positions as college president, vice-president, dean of health sciences, department chair, faculty member and instructional skills / group facilitator.
For 12 years David was employed in senior executive and chief executive positions, where he administered public-sector budgets in excess of $35 million annually, and was responsible for over 600 employees.
From 1980 until 1998 David represented the Association of Canadian Community Colleges in the governance and operation of the Canadian Medical Association Conjoint Accreditation Service for health professional education. He undertook accreditation surveys, chaired the senior leadership committee for accreditation, and led a task force to re-design the accreditation process towards a more outcomes-based approach.
David has consulted to diverse groups and organizations, and brings to all his clients flexibility and efficiency, expert analytical and conceptual skills, attention to detail, and outstanding writing / editorial abilities. In 2006 he received the President’s Award of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors for “distinguished contributions to the profession of counselling”. In 2015 David was elected an Honorary Fellow of Geoscientists Canada [FGC(Hon)] in recognition of service to the geoscience profession.
